Lake Tarawera is nationally significant as a natural asset of great beauty, and is popular for many forms of recreation, and we wish to protect the lake, so we can all continue to enjoy it for years to come.

Nitrogen and phosphorus are the main cause of the Rotorua Lakes’ water quality problems because they feed the algae that live in the lakes. It’s important that you don’t use products or do things that may release nitrogen and phosphorus into the waterways.

The Tree Hut would like to contribute in protecting the lake environment, by wherever possible, using the following products and encouraging guests to use the tips below:

Health Benefits – The skin is our largest organ and it can absorb chemicals from everyday products that we use at home. Laundry products are a good example – they can leave residues of synthetic chemicals in the clothes, and bed linen which are in contact with your skin 24 hours a day. • Wash your car, boat and bike on the lawn or at a car wash, not on the driveway or the street
  
• Stop litter from entering the lake with thick foliage.
  
• Don’t tip out oil, paint, pesticides or other chemicals where they can flow into drains, streams, or the lake.
